6 Years in the US - Claudio Castagnoli
#1

Zitat:Yes, it’s been that long since I move to the US. I was thinking of writing something on Sunday, but then it just didn’t happen.
It also didn’t happen yesterday. Maybe because I was just pushing it off. It’s bitter sweet for me to think of this anniversary maybe that’s why I put it off.

I accomplished a whole lot in those 6 years, but the time flew by. It’s been six years since I left my family and friends. With most of them I only have sporadic email contact and I blame that on myself because I’m bad at answering emails.

When I first left I thought to myself I’m only going to be gone for three years. If it goes well I’ll stay. Now it’s double that time and it’s going well. That would actually be an understatement. It’s going great. I don’t remember the last time you guys heard about a Swiss wrestler! It’s hard enough to make it as an American in this country.

Imagine what it’s like to be from another country without any friends and family. Now that’s not entirely true, I have friends. But none of them know me for more than 8 years. There’s a lyric from a great song that goes like this:

“Work hard to bridge the gaps in geography and lifestyle because the older you get, the more you need the people you knew when you were young.*

It makes me wish I would have done a better job staying in contact… On the other hand I know all my friends will be there for me when I need them. Und dafür bin ich euch für immer dankbar.

So I guess this is why I don’t really celebrate this, it’s just kind of there and I would like to move on. On the other hand I’m really, really proud of what I did within those years. I worked my way up the wrestling ladder yet again (after I did it in Europe) and now I’m one half of the top Tag Team in wrestling! We just wrestled in front of a sold out Manhattan Center and showed the world that we can more than just hang with anybody!

I met so many awesome people and got so much support from my fans. And that means a lot to me. It brought a smile to my face (well on the inside) when the whole crowd yelled “heeey” with every uppercut I threw last Saturday. When I left the building at the end of the night, there were a few fans waiting doing the same. Thank you.

Six years ago I was just some skinny kid coming over from Europe. Look where I’m at now (I’m big and jacked!! Breites Grinsen).

So thank you for all the best wishes on my facebook and twitter, I appreciate it. People keep asking me what the future will hold, where I’ll be in six years etc. Well I don’t know… But I’m excited to find out and if you want, you can be along for the ride! So buckle up, hold on tight (follow me on twitter , facebook and keep checking back here) and let’s go!

Stay European,

Claudio
