Tonight's show is definitely one you won't want to miss. AJ Styles gets his rematch against Jeff Jarrett and both men will be looking to prove something. Raven rejoins Julio Dinero & CM Punk to face Abyss & The Redshirts. In a match that could steal the show, Low Ki battles Kid Kash & Christopher Daniels in a match that will determine a new #1 contender for the X Match. Shane Douglas & Michael Shane team up to face Chris Sabin & Sonjay Dutt. 3 Live Kru will be on hand to talk about their big win last week, but will AMW get their title shot...and what about Simon Diamond and Johnny Swinger? We'll also hear from Roddy Piper and we'll see how X matches up with someone bigger than him when he takes on Don Harris.
Abyss will be working shows in Puerto Rico for the IWA next weekend. Chris Sabin worked shows for the IWA last weekend including a big event that drew a crowd of more than 5000 fans. Michael Shane and David Young worked a huge show this past weekend in Mexico for AAA in front of a crowd in excess of 20,000 fans. We've received thousands of votes in our "Year End Awards" polling, and the results are interesting. Fans can cast votes in several categories and we'll be making the results known later this month. Here are my picks: Superstar of the Year - AJ Styles; Tag Team of the Year - America's Most Wanted; Match of the Year - AMW vs Triple X Cage Match; X Superstar of the Year - Michael Shane; Finisher of the Year - Black Hole Slam; TNA Babe of the Year - Tracy; Memorable Moment of the Year - AJ Styles wins the NWA World Heavyweight Title; Who to Watch in 2004 - Abyss.
They're making a movie about Chris Vaughn, and you'll never believe who will be playing the role of Vaughn. None other than the Rock. That's right, the WWE Superstar turned actor will be playing the role of our popular rookie! Well...that's not entirely accurate. Rock will be playing the role of Chris Vaughn, but it's in the remake of "Walking Tall". It seems they have decided to come up with a different name for the Buford Pusser character, and they decided on Chris Vaughn.
Monday was the biggest day of online merchandise sales we have ever had. We have several new items that are selling very well, and the orders continue to pour in for our new DVD releases. The "Best of NWA-TNA Title Matches" DVD will be shipping at the end of this week and the "Best of the X Division Matches" and "Best of Bloodiest Brawls" will start shipping early next week. We'll be announcing new DVD titles in the near future. Check out all the great merchandise that we have available online!
America's Most Wanted was in the middle of a match with Glen Gilberti & Mike Sanders this past March when a familiar face to Nashville fans showed up out of nowhere. Nobody knew he would be there...not the announcers...not the teams in the ring. We wanted to see how the local fans would react to someone they hadn't seen in awhile. When Moondog Spot walked in the front door of the Asylum the crowd definitely reacted. By the time he had made his way to ringside, the crowd was going crazy making barking sounds in recognition of someone they had grown to love over the years. Moondog Spot was one of those unique characters that the Tennessee fans just adored. He had a run with the WWF, but he was at home in Tennessee and over a 30 year career he developed a special connection with the local fans. They loved him.
This past Saturday night, Moondog Spot was involved in a typically wild match in Memphis...the kind he had become famous for. Spot had been involved in a legendary match years ago in Tupelo. Wrestling as Larry Latham and teaming with Wayne Ferris (later known as Honky Tonk Man), he battled Jerry Lawler and Bill Dundee literally all over the building. The brawl ended up in the concession stand area and the two teams ended up demolishing the place. It became an instant classic and is considered one of the wildest matches in history. Moondog Spot was in another "Concession Stand Match" this past Saturday night at the Mid South Coliseum in Memphis when he suffered an apparent massive heart attack. He collapsed in the ring and passed away shortly after the attack. He will be sadly missed and we send our condolences to his family and friends.
That's it for this week. I'll be back with more Notes From Backstage next week. Until then, enjoy the show!
