The XL Center was pretty full, about 8,000-9,000 if I had to guess. At first, I was surprised because there were a lot of seats that were empty. It was early, and they did fill up pretty quickly. Howard Finkel was announcing this event, and handing out prizes throughout the show.
(1) Big Show won a 24-man Battle Royal to earn an Intercontinental Title shot against Dolph Ziggler later in the night. Just an average battle royal. Gabriel, Slater, and Otunga were the first ones to be eliminated, as everyone ganged up on Nexus. I did notice that when Tyson Kidd was eliminated, he suddenly jumped back into the ring, and eliminated D.H. Smith. Smith and Kidd continued their "issues." The last four men were Swagger, Rhodes, and McIntyre going against Big Show. Big Show went for the KO Punch on Rhodes, and Rhodes covered up in fear. Then, he jumped over the top rope to avoid Show and eliminate himself. Great moment.
(2) U.S. champion Daniel Bryan beat The Miz (w/Alex Riley) to retain the U.S. Title. Miz came out and cut a heel promo about how the fans should appreciate him for all that he's done. Great back and forth between Bryan and Miz. Alex Riley jumped up on the apron and provided a distraction, but it backfired, as Miz ran into Riley. Bryan then rolled up Miz for the win. After the match, Miz and Riley beat down Bryan, and left him in the middle of the ring.
(3) Melina won a Divas Dance-Off involving Kelly Kelly, Gail Kim, Natalya, Maryse, Layla, and Alicia Fox. The anonymous Raw GM was in attendance at the XL Center, and a ref ran out with a random laptop to give the message. The only two that could dance were Melina and Layla. Everyone else could not dance to save their lives. Judging by crowd reaction, the winner was Melina. Layla and the heel Divas took their anger out on the faces. As they cleared the ring, Santino's music hit. Santino came out and thanked the fans for their support. He began to dance, and honestly, was not terribly bad.
Vince McMahon came out to thank the fans. His first line was, "So, some of you think I'm here to talk about politics..." as a couple of fans held up Linda McMahon Senate signs. He also mentioned to the fans to wear WWE t-shirts when they go to vote. Of course. He plugged the "Stand Up for WWE" campaign and posed on the turnbuckles.
(4) Sheamus beat John Morrison. This was a good wrestling match. Nothing to lose, nothing to win, these two were fighting. Morrison tried for Starship Pain a few times, only to get blocked both times. Sheamus got his knees up the second time, and with Morrison writhing in pain, Sheamus hit the Brogue Kick for the three count.
(5) WWE champion Randy Orton beat Wade Barrett to retain the WWE Title. Orton got a big pop on his entrance and Wade got major heat. Again, back and forth wrestling. Orton hit the scoop slam, and went into his IED mode. Nexus then ran down to the ring as a distraction. Orton disposed of Otunga and brought Slater into the ring. Gabriel handed the title belt to Barrett, and Wade hit Orton with the title for a two-count. Orton later slapped Gabriel, and Wade capitalized on that, trying for Wasteland. But, Randy turned it around with an RKO for the win.
(6) IC champion Dolph Ziggler beat Big Show via count-out to retain the Intercontinental Title. Dolph spent a lot of time outside the ring stalling. Hornswoggle threatened him with a steel chair which was amusing. A couple of "Shh" chops from Big Show, which were painful to watch. Dolph applied the Sleeperhold on Show, and Show toppled over the top rope. At about eight, Dolph slipped back into the ring and Show was counted out. Hornswoggle, not happy, began kicking Ziggler, until Ziggler took over. Show got back into the ring as Dolph was celebrating, and hit him with the KO Punch when he turned around. Then, Show set Dolph up for Hornswoggle's Tadpole Splash, to the crowd's amusement.
Alberto Del Rio vs. Rey Mysterio was scheduled to be next. Alberto and his announcer got major heat, especially when Alberto told the crowd that Rey was not here, and that he won by forefit. Just as the referee was going to raise Del Rio's hand, for "one night only," cue up Triple H's music. The crowd went insane. Triple H, dressed in a t-shirt and jeans, entered the ring, and Del Rio told him he'd fight him...at another time, as he left the ring. Triple H ran after him, and hit him from behind. He even took Del Rio's scarf, and put it around his neck, wiped his face with it, and blew his nose in it. Nice touch there.
(6) Triple H beat Alberto Del Rio. Classic Triple H ending with the knee facebuster, spinebuster, and Pedigree for the three count. Afterward, Triple H gave Ricardo Rodriguez a Pedigree, and posed for the crowd, still going nuts for Hunter. Nice return for The Game.
Next up was the World Heavyweight Title match. Big Show was slotted to compete, but since he already did, a surprise opponent was going to be announced. World Hvt. champion Kane walked out and waited for the opponent. No one knew what to expect; cue up John Cena. The crowd exploded, biggest pop of the night.
(7) John Cena beat World Hvt. champion Kane via DQ, Kane retained the World Title. Cena ripped off his Nexus armband halfway through the match. Cena did the usual comeback, teasing the AA a few times. Kane hit a chokeslam, but only good for two. Then, Cena locked in the STF, and Nexus broke it up, resulting in the DQ.
The beat down continued until Orton ran out and started taking out Nexus. The heels ran out to attack Cena and Orton after that. Then, Triple H led the faces out to the ring to clear the ring. Nexus was left, only to meet finishers from Orton, Triple H, and Big Show. Barrett tried to plead for mercy, and Triple H gave him the DX crotch chop. Cena with the Attitude Adjustment on Barrett to end it.
Afterward, Cena thanked all the fans on behalf of the locker room. Funny to note: Big Show lifted Triple H onto his shoulders, and the two walked around the ring for a while. The Superstars stayed around at ringside to meet with the fans. All in all, a good show from the WWE to give back to the fans.
